PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering | Physicist | Computational Modeling | Experimental Biomechanics | Data Analytics

Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Utsab Acharya, and I am currently a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Mississippi. I have an academic background in physics, having earned master's degrees in physics from the University of Mississippi. My research combines principles of physics, engineering, and biology to better understand the biomechanics of the human eye.

I am currently a member of the Vision Laboratory at the University of Mississippi under the supervision of Dr. Yi Hua. My research focuses on ocular biomechanics, with particular emphasis on understanding the mechanical behavior of the Peripheral Sclera, Peripapillary Sclera (PPS), and Optic Nerve Head (ONH) and their roles in myopia progression.

My work integrates computational modeling, finite element analysis, engineering design, experimental biomechanics, and data-driven analysis. I use tools such as SolidWorks, ABAQUS, Gmsh, FEBio Studio/Solver, MATLAB, and Python to develop computational models, analyze experimental data, and design customized laboratory devices for biomechanics research.

Current Research Activities

  • Developing finite element models of the Optic Nerve Head (ONH) and Peripapillary Sclera (PPS).
  • Designing custom inflation chambers for ex vivo ocular biomechanics experiments.
  • Creating 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
  • Fabricating research devices through 3D printing.
  • Performing controlled inflation testing on porcine and bovine eyes, with future applications for donor human eye studies.
  • Processing and analyzing experimental data using computational and statistical methods.
